Missouri Governor Mike Kehoe is preparing a proposal to eliminate the state’s income tax, which he intends to make a top priority during the 2026 Legislative Session. Governor Kehoe stated that the measure would allow Missourians to keep more of their earnings, calling it a “well more thought-out plan.” The potential loss to the state’s budget is significant, as the Office of Administration projects that income taxes will account for $13.4 billion of the general revenue in 2025, which represents approximately three-quarters of the state’s total general revenue.
