The Missouri Department of Transportation has moved into the next stage of planning for the I-229 corridor in downtown St. Joseph following a federal “Finding of No Significant Impact.” The current plan involves removing the aging double-decker bridge and replacing it with a new four-lane, at-grade roadway. Project teams will spend the summer of 2026 conducting surveys and stakeholder outreach, with construction currently slated to begin in 2028.
