Nodaway County commissioners have enacted a temporary, six-month moratorium on the construction of new data centers to thoroughly study their potential impact on the local community. While the measure is not a permanent ban, the pause provides local officials time to consult with residents, developers, and utility providers regarding the heavy demands these high-tech facilities can place on local infrastructure, energy grids, and water resources. Over the next six months, the commission plans to review engineering studies, evaluate tax incentives, and determine if new safety or zoning regulations are necessary, while retaining the option to extend the moratorium for an additional six months if needed.
